Two die in two-vehicle collision near Portage

A two-vehicle collision on Monday, May 30 along Highway 33 at Saddle Ridge East, resulted in the deaths of two individuals in the Town of Fort Winnebago. The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office reported that speed and alcohol may have contributed to the crash that took place between the two vehicles.

The victims were identified as 24-year-old Pardeeville resident Adam Chester and 24-year-old Baraboo resident Jacob Bachman. Both men were declared dead at the scene of the accident. According to preliminary investigations, Chester was driving a black GMC truck with Bachman as his passenger, when the GMC truck “over-corrected”, causing the truck to veer towards the two-lane highway and collide with a silver Dodge Ram truck. The matter is currently under investigation by members of the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office.
