Intoxicated driver causes fatal crash

Two people lost their lives in a two-vehicle wrong way collision caused by a drunk driver in Kenosha County on December 6 at around 6 p.m., FOX 6 reported.

According to preliminary investigations, a pickup truck was driving east down the westbound lanes in the 34500 block of Highway 50 in the Town of Wheatland when the driver, 36-year-old Brian Smith, struck an oncoming vehicle. Although several people had called 911 to report the wrong way driver, according to Sgt. Dan Ruth of the Kenosha County Sheriff’s office, police could not arrive in time to prevent the collision.

The driver of the westbound vehicle sustained serious injuries, was taken to Burlington Hospital, and died not long after. The passenger in the vehicle was declared dead at the scene of the accident.

Smith was listed in critical condition after being flown to Froedtert Hospital. He faces several charges, including two counts of homicide by intoxicated driving.
