Pregnant drivers more susceptible to car accidents – study

A new study published May 12 in the Canadian Medical Association Journal showed that pregnant women who drive are more susceptible to experience car accidents than female drivers who are not pregnant, reported on May 12.

According to the study, it is more dangerous for women during their second trimester, when they are feeling the effects of their pregnancy but have not become as cautious while driving as they are when in late-term pregnancy. Institute for Clinical Evaluative Sciences in Toronto researcher Donald Redelmeier said an average pregnancy causes fatigue, nausea, insomnia, anxiety, and distraction, and that these effects “could contribute to driver error.”
