Cell phone use while driving banned in Wausau

On Wednesday, February 12 the Wausau city council officially banned cellphone use while driving.

The ordinance stipulates that it is illegal for a driver to physically hold any type of communication device while driving. However, hands-free devices, such as Bluetooth earpieces and speakerphones are permitted for use while driving.

According to Council President, Lisa Rassmussen, their version of the cellphone ban is similar to the ordinances in Marshfield and Wisconsin Rapids. The council hopes that the ban will help prevent distracted driving accidents.
