Candy store car crash leads to DUI charges for Wisconsin Dells man

A Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin resident was charged with driving under the influence and three other traffic violations after accidentally slamming into the Goody Goody Gum Drop candy store on Broadway on Sunday, November 10. Wisconsin Dells Police cited 24-year-old Caesar Smolinski with deviating from the designated lane, failure to yield the right of way, first offense driving under the influence, and hit and run of property.

According to Dells Police Lieutenant Perry Mayer, Smolinski was turning right his 2013 Dodge Ram pickup from Elm to Broadway when he accidentally slammed into the store at around 10 a.m.

Smolinski said that at the time he was having problems turning his steering wheel, causing him to crash. Mayer, on the other hand, said formal tests done on the vehicle did not indicate any problems with the steering wheel.
