Drunken driver suspect in Lanark crash charged, held on $100K bail

On Monday, September 16, Portage County Circuit Court Judge John Finn ordered 23-year-old Amherst resident Hanna Schacht be held on a $100,000 cash bond for charges of homicide by drunken driving as she was accused of driving her car drunk and killing 51-year-old Lanark local Richard Wetzel.

Wetzel was pulling east out of a driveway in the 10000 block of Buelow Road east of Dulske Road in Lanark, east of Stevens Point, Wisconsin at around 10:20 a.m. on Sunday, September 15 when Schacht crashed into his vehicle.

In 2012, Schacht caused the death of a drug dealer she and her friend were trying to steal drugs from by causing the man to fall from the roof of her car and hit his head as they drove away. She was given a one-year stay and imposed jail sentence for that offense.
