Woman turns herself in after hitting a child with SUV

A Kenosha woman has plead not guilty to felony hit and run charges after hitting a 10-year-old girl with her SUV and driving away in August.

The young girl had just bought a treat from an ice cream truck and was crossing the street. The motorist saw her, but was not able to stop quickly enough to avoid hitting the child with her car. The woman stopped for a moment and then drove away without checking to see if the young girl was uninjured.

A witness followed her, but gave up pursuit after the motorist threatened to kill him if he continued. She later turned herself in, claiming she wanted to do the right thing.

The little girl was unhurt, but not all pedestrian accident victims are so lucky. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that 4,280 people lost their lives in pedestrian accidents in 2010.
