Elderly woman dies in Shawano car crash

A 95-year-old woman was killed Saturday as a result of car accident that occurred around 10:48 a.m. Saturday morning.

The Shawano Police Department reports that the woman was a passenger in Carole Scharr’s vehicle when the accident happened. They were traveling south on S. Union St. when Schaar failed to yield at an intersection, colliding with another vehicle.

The woman was taken to a nearby emergency room and later flown to Theda Clark Medical Center, where she passed away. This is the first fatal car accident the city has seen in nearly a decade.

There are many reasons a driver might accidentally fail to yield the right of way to another. Avoiding distractions while driving can help reduce your chances of making a potentially fatal mistake.
