Injured driver sues Wood County over accident

A Wisconsin Rapids man who was injured when a police officer hit him on his moped last October is suing Wood County, the deputy driving the squad car, the Sheriff’s Department, and their insurance companies.

According to the accident report filed by the Nekoosa Police Department, the moped driver was making a left turn when a sheriff’s deputy struck him as he looked down at his phone. The deputy was cited for inattentive driving.

The 38 year-old is seeking compensation for medical expenses, loss of income, pain and suffering, and possible permanent disability. No dollar amount was given.
