Bicyclist in serious condition after car crash

An 11 year-old boy is in serious condition after he was hit by a car while riding his bike in Wisconsin Rapids Monday night. According to police, he had a red light as he began crossing the intersection of West Grand Avenue and West Riverview Expressway.

The 79 year-old driver who struck the boy told authorities he never saw the bicyclist. The boy is currently at Ministry Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield suffering from serious injuries.

In Wisconsin Rapids, bicyclists who ride their bikes through intersections must obey the same laws as motorists. They must yield to oncoming traffic and pedestrians unless they walk their bikes across.
