A quarter of WI residents drive drunk

More than a quarter of people in Wisconsin have claimed they have driven drunk in the past year. The numbers come from a federal survey conducted by the US Department of Health and Human Services in 2009. The people surveyed were at or above the legal driving age of 16 years-old.

Statistics gathered from the survey show that Wisconsin has the highest rate of drunk drivers than any other state in the country. 44,000 arrests were made in 2010 for driving under the influence of alcohol. Sadly, 238 people were killed in alcohol-related traffic accidents. Another 4,000 were injured. 45% of deadly car accidents and 40% of fatal motorcycle crashes were blamed on drunk driving.
