Study Shows Pedestrians Endangered by Eldery Drivers

A recent study conducted by a university has found that drivers who are over the age of sixty-five may be hazardous to pedestrians.

The study, which took place in a laboratory and used simulation technology and a real car, showed that senior citizens did not notice people walking on the street. It was found that older drivers are only able to see and react to half of the external stimuli that was presented. The study also found that the elderly must lower their speed by at least twenty percent in order to have time to react to pedestrians or hazards on the road.

With the number of elderly drivers increasing on the road, it is imperative that other drivers practice defensive driving and that pedestrians pay attention to their surroudings.
