Investigation determines driver error at fault in crash

Authorities report that they have closed an investigation into the factors behind a 76-year-old woman’s crash into the side of a Sheboygan Falls YMCA last week.

The woman was driving a Toyota Camry and had initially claimed brake failure as the reason behind the collision, which was particularly plausible given the recent nationwide Toyota recalls. This story has been disproved by video surveillance that shows the woman driving into the side of the building at a steady rate of speed without any visible attempt to apply the brakes, which is not consistent with her story.

“We are still waiting — and I stress this is not a final conclusion — but up ’til this point I feel comfortable saying our belief right now is that this is an operator issue,” Sheboygan Falls Public Safety Chief Steven Riffel said.

Luckily no bystanders or people inside the building were injured in this crash, but that is not always the case. If you or someone you know has been injured by a reckless driver, contact the Kenosha reckless driving attorneys of Habush Habush & Rottier S.C. ®, at 800-242-2874 as soon as possible.
