Driver Who Killed Child Arrested

The 19-year-old driver of a van that struck and killed a 9-year-old child in Jackson County on December 26 has been arrested, police say.

The 9-year-old boy had been staying at his grandparents’ farm in Jackson County, not far from Taylor. He began snowboarding in the area on Saturday, when he apparently lost control and skidded over an embankment and onto County Trunk P, where he was hit by the van. He was taken by life flight to Luther Hospital in Eau Claire, where he died.

The driver was arrested and booked with a charge of Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Detectable Amount of a Controlled Substance.
