Motorcycle Accidents Spike in Northeast Wisconsin

Posted on Tuesday, June 29th, 2010 at 9:39 am

A spike in motorcycle accidents is causing concern in Northeast Wisconsin. Three deadly motorcycle crashes have been reported in the region for the past three weeks alone. Fox 11 (WLUK-TV) reports that the most recent accident occurred in Stockbridge where one man was left in critical condition.

The warm weather brings the cyclists out of their winter hibernation. Some are concerned that the cyclists’ skills are a little rusty. Others worry that drivers have forgotten to take extra caution with their fellow bikers. Experts advise safety classes and equipment for all cyclists.

Motorcycle accidents can be serious and costly. If you or someone you know has been injured in a motorcycle accident, call 1-800-2-HABUSH to speak with an experienced motorcycle accident attorney at Habush Habush & Rottier S.C. ®

Fon du Lac cyclist injured in accident

Posted on Wednesday, May 19th, 2010 at 2:49 pm

A 22-year-old Fon du Lac woman was struck while riding her bicycle by a hit-and-run driver this Wednesday, according to police.

As she was heading southbound on North Brooke Street around 4:45 p.m, she was struck by an older, heavy-set man, driving a rusty blue car, according to the woman.

“We’re seeing a lot more people riding bikes,” Deputy Chief Kevin Lemke Lemke said. “It is healthier, and when gas prices go up and the economy is down, people ride bikes to save money. Whenever you have a lot of bikes and cars trying for the same real estate, there will be accidents. Unfortunately, the bicyclist is going to lose,” said Lemke.

Lemke said drivers should be more cautious when it comes to cyclists as the summer months begin.

Hit-and-run drunk driver appears in court

Posted on Tuesday, April 13th, 2010 at 10:37 am

The case of the bicyclist-vehicle accident mentioned in the last blog post that resulted in the cyclist’s death has reached local courts. The Valders man accused of driving drunk, striking the Kiel cyclist, and fleeing the scene, faces one count of homicide by intoxicated use of a motor vehicle and hit-and-run resulting in death. The complaint filed by the prosecution states that the cyclist “was a very experienced rider and had a red flashing light to the rear of the vehicle” and it says he was “wearing light-colored pants and a green reflective vest.”

Police report that the driver called them around 2 a.m. to say he thought he had hit a deer but wasn’t sure. Inspection of the damage to his vehicle found it to be consistent with a cyclist-vehicle collision, not a deer collision. The driver is currently free on bond but will return to court April 28 for a preliminary hearing.
