Families of 87 fatal victims to be compensated through GM claims

The claims process set up by GM in the wake of their delayed recall of vehicles with defective ignition switches will compensate the families of 87 fatal victims through the program, the Killeen Daily Herald reported on April 20.

According to lawyer Kenneth Feinberg, who was hired to approve claims on the company’s behalf, said that an additional 157 injured people are eligible for compensation based on the standards set by GM. Out of the total 4,342 claims filed through the claims program by the deadline of January 31, 2015, over half were not eligible because they lacked sufficient documentation.

At least five settlement offers have so far been rejected by accident victims.
