Don’t Become an Aggressive Driver

Most drivers have at some point experienced a stressful situation on the road. Perhaps you have been stuck in a traffic jam when you are in a hurry to reach your destination, or maybe another driver acts irresponsibly by driving slowly in the fast lane or by stopping in the middle of the street to load or unload a vehicle.

Despite the annoyances we all face each day on the road, it is important to keep everyone’s safety in mind and to avoid driving recklessly in response to a stressful situation. Reckless and aggressive driving can result in accidents that damage property or can cause serious injury to those involved. To avoid these damaging accidents, keep the following safety tips in mind:

  • Understand that you have no control over the behavior of the traffic. You can only control your reaction to it.
  • Allow yourself time to get places. Get into the habit of leaving early and allowing yourself ample travel time. Have alternate routes in mind, or consider traveling on off-peak hours or days.
  • Listen to soothing music or something that relaxes you.
  • Be polite and courteous to other drivers, even if they do not return the favor
  • Avoid conflicts with other drivers. Never challenge another driver or respond to a challenge. Ignore rude behavior by others.
  • Control your anger. Negligent drivers are everywhere– don’t respond to their behavior by becoming a negligent driver yourself.
